The new Maple Leaf Foods giant new plant in Hamilton will employ as many as 2,500 workers. Not all those jobs will be "new", Maple Leaf is closing its operations in Burlington at
Appleby Line, shifting the existing workforce to the Hamilton factory
and eventually doubling the size of its labour force. With about 1,300 employees, Maple Leaf’s pork processing plant in Burlington, many of these coveted jobs will not benefit Hamiltonian's. In reality, a couple of hundred new full time jobs are up for grabs in Hamilton, the rest will be filled with temp positions. Better than nothing.
