I couldn't believe the pictures that came of Pearsons International Airport yesterday.
Watching an Air France Air Bus flight 358 burning on the runway gave me that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach at first. Then to hear that all of the 309 passengers and crew had survived, affirmed by beliefs in guardian angels.
They had taken the guise this day as flight attendants, crew and well informed passengers who worked together to safely evacuate the burning plane in less than two minutes.
Applause also goes out to those who had stopped along the busy highway 401 to pick up the weary crash victims and drive them back to the terminals.

This Weeks Tales From The Set Archive-Miss Green Dress
A couple of weeks back while on set of some new network series slated for the fall called Beautiful People, a couple of us who had done a long stint on Cinderella Man together last year where humorously recalling some of the details of one particular female extra.
This womens dress was this sets equivalent to Vivian Lee's green dress in "Gone With The Wind". Problem was our Miss Scarlet, acted more like the lead character in the Scarlet Letter.
Let's just say this women was quite aware of how this dress lifted and separated her ample cleavage.
Although, to give her the benefit of the doubt, she might have had a bad back, so that could be the reason she need to bend forward and stretch a lot. Especially when men passed.
It's funny how memory works though, after recalled the facts of this women, we both said simultaneously, "By the way, what was her name ?"
Where ever you are Miss Green Dress, god bless your spirit!

Things That Make You Shake Your Head II
To be fair, in the last post I noted some of the general publics misnomers and ill thought out phrasings spoken while passing productions. Here is a list of some of the questions uttered by those coming on to a set for the first time.
1. When do we eat?
(Hmm, you are standing in holding, there is a craft table set up for extras, wild guess, when you can? What they meant to say: How long after we have signed in will be be fed? Answer:Three(substantial) and six hours(Hot meal))
2. What time will be wrapped?
(Yeesh, it's 7:00am. When they get all the shots done?)
3. Who's a good agent?
(I hope the one your with!)
4. How much do we get paid?
(Christ we get paid! Yee Haw! This is something the agents cover early, hoping to scare off people who ask this kind of question.)
5. Why do we have to wear these uncomfortable clothing? Can't I wear jeans and stand in the back.

2. Do you have any change?
(from a street beggar I was clearly wearing a police uniform too boot! Note, background performers make less than the guy who picks up road kill on the side of the highway. I was stumped by this guy.)
3. Are you allowed to shoot the guns?
(asked by a well meaning youngster, as she keenly spotted the replica glock placed in my holster. It would not be safe practice for a production company to allow extras to fire real weapons on a busy city street. Nuts.)
4. Can I be in the film?
(Asked by a man who decided to join the line of extras waiting to be cued by an AD(Assistant Director) to make their cross in front of the cameras. If you are that hard up to be seen on film, go the bank and stand in front of the security cam. Short answer no.)
5. Can I get your autograph?

Post Cards From The Hammer

Here are nine photos depicting many of the spenders that can be found in and around the City of Hamilton. Liuna Station (former CN Rail)
This is the same station featured in many films including "X-Men" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight

Here's a picture of the inside of Liuna station. A friend of mine snapped this when we worked on the set of the Canadian series "The Eleventh Hour".

On the set of "The Eleventh Hour" The scene was a flashback to a ficticious chess match between the Russian and Canadian champions set in Montreal. I sat behind the actor playing the Russian (left side of the picture)

Queen Victoria stands proud, looking out over Gore Park at the corner of King St W and James St S in downtown Hamilton.

Constructed between 1832-1835. Dundurn Castle has been restored to the year 1855 when MacNab was at the height of his career as a lawyer, landowner, railway magnate and Premier of the United Canadas (1845-56). Over forty rooms, above and below stairs, have been furnished to compare the life of a prominent Victorian family with that of their servants. Costumed staff guide visitors through the home, illustrating daily life from the 1850s.

What's In A Name?
What's In A Name? You ask. Well, in the world of celebrities it is everything. That said check out this top ten list of famous parents and their name choices for their children. Some are creative like Bruce Willis and Demi who named one of their children Scout Larue after a character in to Kill a Mockingbird. Jones Needs To Learn Cats Playbook ASAP
This weeks preformance by the Cats actually looked promising. Although they gave up five touchdowns to the 'Esks Ricky Ray, they made a game out of this weeks tilt with the Edmonton Eskimos, who came into the game with a 4-1 record.
On paper this game should have been a blow out for the win less Ti-Cats, but Hamilton managed to pull off their most successful offensive performances of the year and they did it in style.
Considering the Cats had only scored two passing touchdowns all year, it was exciting to watch Tiger-Cats’ D.J. Flick catch an 18-yard touchdown from Danny mismanage in the second quarter.It was Flick’s first TD of the season.
Tiger-Cats backup quarterback Marcus Brady, filling in for an injured McManus in the third quarter, connected with Chris frazzle on his first pass of the game for a 24-yard touchdown. McManus left the game with an apparent thumb injury, and did not return.
With the Tiger-Cats needing to rally in the fourth quarter, linebacker Rob Hitchcock caught a 19-yard pass by kicker Jamie Boreham on a fake punt resulting in a first down. Brady would complete a 20-yard touchdown to Brazzell later on the drive to pull Hamilton within 29-27.
But Ray led the Eskimos down field on a seven-play drive, ending on Tucker 15-yard touchdown reception.
Down 36-27, Boreham booted a 49-yard field goal, giving the Tiger-Cats a chance on their final possession. But the Eskimos defense stopped Brady at midfield, as Edmonton hung on to the victory.
This begs the question, with Danny Mac out, will Khari Jones, whom the Cat's picked up from Edmonton last week in an effort to give Hamilton a legitimate back up QB, be ready to step up and stop the bleeding?
Secondly, can Jones make it work with this same receiving core that just can't get on the same page with Danny Mac. Resulting in numerous drop balls. If he does, will this test Lancaster and Marshall's loyality to Danny and force Greg to yank McManus
permanantly?
I hope so, McManus is a graet field general, but it's about time we got some soldiers who can make an assault on the end zone.

Eternal

Another year has passed, sun, moon and earth.
Together in eternal harmony.
Mother earth, father sun and their children named star and moon.
Dancing to and fro, around the heavens in sweet embrace.
A bond that cannot be broke forever.
A song accompanies.
The celestial families dance, an aria of sort.
Melodies strings and harps.
Played by an orchestra of angels.
Accompanied by gods earthly creatures.
From subtle chirps of the smallest of birds.
To the thundering bass of the largest of beast of burden.
To each a spot on this heaven sent scale.
Creating the most perfect of composition.
As I sit, reflecting on the past.
On what was once.
And upon the hole left in my heart.
By the passing of my mother two years ago.
Her life cut short like a delicate and the rarest of lilies.
By some freak spring storm.
It's wrath, not even the heartiest of mother earths
Creations could withstand.
A hole where heavens bloom once reached for the sun remains.
Heavens mates, sun and earth.
One gone in body, but not in spirit,
Life's code suggests a cycle of death and rebirth.
To fill the void, in the garden. Each of the blooms surrounding the hole.
Had to grow stronger and bigger.
Stretching out forth towards their father sun.
To form a stronger chain.
One hoping to hold tight against further storms.
Children of strong earth and nurturing suns rays.
Bonding together to bask in the suns energy giving glow and setting.
Deep their roots in the enriching soil.
Their mother toiled so hard.
Year after year, turning clay into rich soil.
A strong base for her kin.
To sink deep, their roots, soaking up every drop of nourishment that she could offer.
Allowing her children to grow forth and stretch their roots outward.
And their pedals upward, seeking soil of their own.
To procreate new children.
As I continue to write this, still feeling the effects of winters chill.
I can not help grow warmer with each pen stroke, each brings forth.
A warm memory of my dearest mother in body, mind, and spirit.
She will always be with me.
So will her teachings of hard work, courtesy and kindness to those dear.

I only need to stretch out towards the sun and my fellow kin.

Unabomber's Effects Ordered To Be Sold
Tell me I'm not the only one to find this story, a little disturbing. A federal appeals court last week ordered the government to sell thousands of pages of Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski's papers and other personal property to the highest bidder.
Common sense would dictate a response of public shun for these items. But no!.There are collectors in Florida, New York, California, Ohio that are clamering to get anything from him according to Tod Bohannon, owner of Murderauction.com, an auction Web site for murder memorabilia.
Bohannon's site, created earlier this year after eBay banned the sale of murder-related items amid protests from victims rights groups, features dozens of items from killers including John Wayne Gacy's framed Illinois license plate and letters written by Dennis Rader, the BTK killer in Wichita, Kan.
Experts, noting that some of Gacy's clown paintings he created in prison have sold for as much as $10,000, believe the Unabomber's journals could fetch more than $1,000 apiece.
Thank god, this crap will never show up on the "Antiques Roadshow". These collectors need to get a life. And I hope the U.S Government convinces the Federal Court to burn Kaczynski's stuff and send them down to hell, where they belong.

Bigfoot Hair a Hoax Says Scientist
A story out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada reports that a hank of hair purported to come off Bigfoot may well have come off someone's wall instead.
"You can't fool us with a hair sample," wildlife geneticist David Coltman said yesterday in announcing the hair was from a bison.
Coltman's University of Alberta team performed DNA tests this week on the hair reportedly plucked from a bush near Teslin, Yukon, this month.
"The DNA sequence from the Teslin hair sample produced a 100-per-cent match with known bison sequences," said Coltman at an occasionally hilarious news conference yesterday.
"This hair sample could not have come from the hairy, bipedal animal reportedly sighted in Teslin last week."
The hair DNA was so degraded it was probably years old and could have come from a stuffed animal, he said.
"It could be a consequence of the tanning process used to preserve hides and trophy mounts," said Coltman.
Bison are uncommon in the Teslin area of the Yukon.
The result came after days of speculation about the hair, found close to where several people swear they saw a large, hairy creature one evening.
Coltman went on to say that he already is working on his next case of the supernatural. Alberta's answer to Detective Mulder, says that within hours of debunking the myth of Bigfoot he got all a call from a women stating that she had heard a large dog like animal scratching and clawing across her roof.
She went on to add, that she felt it could have been a Werewolf.
I was hoping this hair was real and they could extract DNA and track down the elusive harry beast. Can't you see it know, a new season of the surreal life with Big Foot, Shack O' Neil, a return visit from Ron Jeremy and Paris Hilton. Big feet, big hands= well you know. And Paris is just a big hoe.
