Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945. Obviously as a result of two atomic bombs being dropped on them. It was generally believed, and for a few months Americans and their allies could tell themselves that though the bombs had been terrible, they negated the need for an invasion of Japan. This had been scheduled for December 1945, but it meant hundreds of thousands of Allied servicemen would have been killed and wounded. But very soon doubts arose in many quarters.
The first Americans to reach Hiroshima and Nagasaki - servicemen, scientists and journalists - described in great detail the apocalyptic scenes they encountered. They saw a grey, blasted landscape, in which thousands of hideously burnt people were huddled in shanties, coughing up and urinating blood, with their hair falling out in clumps, waiting to die.
The United States Army Air Force published a survey of the effects of strategic bombing on Japan. The Air Force argued that conventional B-29 attacks had all but brought Japan to its knees, and concluded,
' ... it is the Survey’s opinion that certainly prior to 31 December 1945, and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945 (well before the date of the invasion) Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped.’
The above are excerpts from a BBC report, used to illustrate the need to end all testing, selling, manufacturing and use of any nuclear products. Sixty years and we are barely realizing the need to bring an end to the crazy idea of wars being fought with nuclear weapons.
Now only if we can get the weapons out of the hands of crazed, unstable governments. Unfortunately, western governments have a crazy notion that this instability only exits in the third world. Let's get it straight, I am a little more concerned with the idea of India, Israel, Pakistan, Turkey, North Korea, Iran and China all possessing nuclear weapon capabilities and all have active nuclear weapons programs.
Furthermore, each of these governments have had periods of government instability. With the exception of Iran and North Korea, the world is turning a blind eye towards the potential for a world disaster, all in the name of commerce. It seems the world cares more about selling cars and soda pop to their friends so much, they are willing to ignore the potential atrocities these governments are willing to carry out.
Wake up people, if any of these countries has another period of instability and one of their leaders decides to use a nuclear weapon on their enemies, the 140,000 who died in Japan in 1945 wont be a comparison.
Today, with population densities being what they are, one small nuclear war head detonated in the heart of a city of one million would see more than 500,000 dead and
and another 100,000 injured of which many will eventually die from radiation poisoning.
The only "going nuclear" I'm interested in is watching the Leafs Tie Domi going nuts and giving us a good scrap. Lets put the pressure on our governments, in a peaceful manner, to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Two Year Anniversery of the Big Blackout
On August 14, 2003, the largest power blackout in North American history affected eight U.S.States and the Province of Ontario, leaving up to 50 million people with no electricity.
In a 2004 Natural Resources Canada report some of the major causes leading to the blackout, include inadequate tree-trimming near transmission lines and inadequate training of operators to recognize and cope with emergency conditions.
This was a complete cop out by the Province to blame the workers, considering the diagnostic tools provided to them to monitor the system, where outdated and inaccurate. This is almost as funny as the report on the cause of the outage that came out days after the event, that laid the blame on a rodent of some sort, which apparently had chewed through a major transformer cable.
The Final Report of the Task Force, released on April 5, 2004, presented 46 recommendations for action. To date only a third of these recommendations have been implemented to any degree, of those most are minor changes.
The result is that two years later, Ontario residents are still being threatened with the potential of another major blackout occurring.
Now the fun part, where were you during the blackout? I had the fortunate pleasure of being in Toronto on an exterior shoot for the production "Dawn of the Dead". I remember the night quite vividly. I was one of a couple hundred "zombies" sitting around holding down on Cherry Street near Front waiting for a shot to be set up, when suddenly the power went out.
At the time, many of us where standing around outside the the tent set up, thinking "oh well another brown out, this won't take long". That was about 8:00pm or so, then I saw the lights in the banking towers slowly disappear floor by floor down from the top. Within fifteen minutes the entire city was covered in a sea of blackness.
For the next thirty minutes it was a bit chaotic, as AD's, and crew ran around phoning, trying to get reports to what was happening. At around eight thirty the word came down that the black out was much bigger than we thought. All of southern Ontario was dark, and police forces where immobilizing preparing for the worst, which thank god never happened.
What I found most fascinating, this had to be the first time since the dawn of the industrial age that actually could see stars in the Toronto sky.
I was finally cleaned up and wrapped by 9:30pm and on my way home, not sure if the next day was still a go. Fortunately the big black out was over by morning and the show went on, oh and thank god for battery operated pagers or I would have never gotten up.

News From The Set:Dough Nuts and Hammers
Todays news is a mixed bag of dough nuts and hammers.
First the dough nuts. Yesterday I had the opportunity to work in Hamilton again, on the set of the tv serial Regenesis (Ep202). I played in two scenes of many during the long thirteen hour shoot. The first as an RCMP officer assisting a CSIS(Canadian Secret Service) agent apprehend a suspect outside an airport(Hamilton's old bus station, doubled for Pearson Internationsal).
The second at City Hall as a Toronto Metro Officer doing crowd control. The scene was a series of small pick-up shots requiring us extras to act as a crowd of civilians and media looking on at a man who has just just been killed with a syring of unknown matter, injected into his neck.
Anyway, the script wasn't the interesting part of the day, the fact that I got too work with Canadian Director and Kingston, ON native Bruce McDonald again( cult hit Hardcore Logo, TV Serials Kevin Hill, This is Wonderland, Playmakers and guest directorials on Queer as Folk). I've worked with him on all of these series, and I find his directing style refreshing. He's not one for doing ten takes of five different angles, having extras stand around waiting for the magic to happen. Instead he keeps the extras comfortable in holding, while his crew set up each shot and once he's clear on his shot list it's usually a master, the closeups and then coverage as needed. Three, four set ups, no more than five takes is all he requires.
This night, he had good group of extras (about 50 of us), all of us had been around for a while and know interpret the directions from the AD's.

A funny moment was provided when at one point in the scene with the onlookers watching the culprit jab his victim, Bruce McDonald yelled out a request for an extra to scream out in shock. His request was met with dead silence, disbelief and mild amusement. See here in Canada, the ACTRA agreement(our version of SAG), states.

We all knew this wasn't going to happen on this set, so we kept are mouths shut. Bruce got his scream via one of the actresses who where not in this shot(don't know who she was).
Now the hammers, courtesy of the Hamilton Spectator. Producers of a superhero movie called Zoom have zoomed away from a plan to film in downtown Hamilton next month, although the city was willing to close three blocks of Main Street for two weeks. The producers said in a letter they've decided to rewrite the ending to take place in a remote setting with fewer elements and costs.

Toronto Needs a John Wayne
Something is completely wrong when you wake up and read stories like this. From the Canadian Press.
"For two weeks, gunfire has been ringing out almost daily in Toronto, often in very public places and leaving bloodshed in its wake. A total of twenty shootings occurred during this time period. Among the victims was a four-year-old boy who was wounded in a gun battle between members of rival gangs.
Two more young people were killed and three wounded in two more shootings early Monday, bringing the total of 28 handgun-related homicides this year to 28, compared with 27 at the same time a year ago."
The problem lies in the fact that a bunch of punk kids who think of themselves as outlaws can simply drive down to any U.S border town and pick up a cheap hand gun with little effort.
Of some 5,000 illegal handguns taken off Toronto's streets every year the majority can be traced back to the U.S. Gun laws in America are a joke, a point punctuated by political columnist and business editor Mark Tran, who states that U.S laws make guns extremely accessible to young persons, using the federal governments own figures.
Current U.S federal law requires criminal background checks only for guns sold by licensed firearm dealers, which account for just 60% of gun sales. This means that two of every five guns acquired in the US change hands without a background check. This includes guns bought at gun shows, through classified ads, and between individuals. There are between 2,000 and 5,000 gun shows held every year.
This means any kid with a couple hundred bucks can purchase a gun from the back of a magazine or trunk in an alley way by-passing any age restrictions.
I hope Toronto Mayor David Miller and Police Chief Bill Blair can round up a few more than the already hired thousand new police offers and show these wanna be's who are the real 'bad asses'.
As a side note, what ever happened to the good old days when two hot heads if they needed to duke it out they did it mono on mono with just their fists? Now we have a bunch of stupid little jerks blaming their parents, movies, and ADHD for their in ability to function in a civilized world. Instead they find their sense of being in a piece of coloured rag and acting like a pack of trailer park muts.
Instead of cloning ugly dogs we need to find a way to clone the duke. Fast!

Coach Great One:Alpha Male or Dogs Lunch?
That is the question. Someone once said, those who can, do, those who can't teach. This is so true of players who turned coach in the NHL.
Gordon "Red" Berenson was arguably the best player turned coach. As a player he scored a respectable 695 points in 1036 career NHL games with Montreal, Detroit and St. Louis. He turned assistant coach in 1978, then coach in 1980 and took the sad below .500 team to the playoffs in 1981 with an amazing .669 average winning himself the Jack Adams trophy.
No one has ever questioned Wayne Gretzkys leadership and abilities as a player or as a manager and business man. The Great Ones records and achievements in the NHL and internationally speak for themselves. His decision to take over the coaching duties are another story.
Gretzky came to Phoenix and turned around a franchise on the brink of bankruptcy, to the point that interest in the team is at an all time high, based on ticket sales and merchandise sales. Phoenix is no longer the team with laughable jerseys playing in a substandard building thanks to the greatest player of all time.
The question is, again. Can Gretzky coach the ailing Phoenix Coyotes and make them respectable like Berenson did or will he let an inferior product and lack of experience turn his tenure into a coaching footnote more the lines of Mike Milbury in New York, who was forced once again to teach from a distance.

Good Evening...And Goodbye
We have lost another great broadcaster in Peter Jennings. Jennings died of lung cancer age the age of 67, this morning.
The Torontonian never forgot his Canadian roots even as he stood on the summit of the US journalism mountain. His ABC World News Tonight broadcasts always included more Con-Can than any other American broadcast.
Jennings was never afraid to include a story from Canada do to fear of lack of American knowledge. While other American broadcasters tripped over Quebec Premier Jean Charests name or gave out interesting geography lessons, indicating that Napanee, Ontario, is just east of Toronto. Peter Jennings never looked out of place correcting the world in telling them that Avril Lavigne's hometown is actually 136 miles away from Toronto and closest to Kingston.
The guy who at just 27 became the youngest anchor ever of the ABC Evening News went on to a 40 year career that saw Jennings win no fewer than 14 Emmy awards as well as a host of other honours.
Jening's newscasts tackled the conflicts raging in Bosnia, Haiti and Iraq, among others. But he also explored such domestic issues as arts funding, abortion and gun control.
His interviews have ran the full spectrum from ground breaking. From his 1974 profile of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat which won him the first of his two Peabody awards and the first interview with Ayatollah Khomeini following his return to Iran after the shah went into exile in 1979.

I summation, I quote ABC's 2005 promotional campaign for Jennings that offered the simple tag line "Trust is earned." And it was.

The Torontonian never forgot his Canadian roots even as he stood on the summit of the US journalism mountain. His ABC World News Tonight broadcasts always included more Con-Can than any other American broadcast.
Jennings was never afraid to include a story from Canada do to fear of lack of American knowledge. While other American broadcasters tripped over Quebec Premier Jean Charests name or gave out interesting geography lessons, indicating that Napanee, Ontario, is just east of Toronto. Peter Jennings never looked out of place correcting the world in telling them that Avril Lavigne's hometown is actually 136 miles away from Toronto and closest to Kingston.
The guy who at just 27 became the youngest anchor ever of the ABC Evening News went on to a 40 year career that saw Jennings win no fewer than 14 Emmy awards as well as a host of other honours.
Jening's newscasts tackled the conflicts raging in Bosnia, Haiti and Iraq, among others. But he also explored such domestic issues as arts funding, abortion and gun control.
His interviews have ran the full spectrum from ground breaking. From his 1974 profile of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat which won him the first of his two Peabody awards and the first interview with Ayatollah Khomeini following his return to Iran after the shah went into exile in 1979.

From The Set Of Cheaper By The Dozen II
Hi all,
I finished up Friday night a two day booking on the set of the new Eugene Levy, Steve Martin film "Cheaper By The Dozen II". Currently filming in Toronto.
I can't say a whole lot about the film, damn rules and all. But let me say, watching two guys with a combined comedy resume of more than two hundred projects in the last
thirty five years was a complete dream.
If you asked me, "hey wanna come out and be stuffed into a dank church basement with a hundred and fifty others, including ninety children. But, oh the kicker, you will have to react to the actions of two of the funniest men on the planet." What would you say? "Hell ya!"
Anyway, the only thing I can say about the set was that it was an easy two days sitting one row from two lengends perform a scene that ends with Steve Martin being held by his ankles over a movie theater balcony by Eugene Levy.
A stunt man was used for Mr. Levy's POV's other than that Steve Martin strapped on the harness and did his own pratt falls into the mat. Even at sixty! the man still has his timing.

The Angels Are Watching!
I couldn't believe the pictures that came of Pearsons International Airport yesterday.
Watching an Air France Air Bus flight 358 burning on the runway gave me that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach at first. Then to hear that all of the 309 passengers and crew had survived, affirmed by beliefs in guardian angels.
They had taken the guise this day as flight attendants, crew and well informed passengers who worked together to safely evacuate the burning plane in less than two minutes.
Applause also goes out to those who had stopped along the busy highway 401 to pick up the weary crash victims and drive them back to the terminals.

This Weeks Tales From The Set Archive-Miss Green Dress
A couple of weeks back while on set of some new network series slated for the fall called Beautiful People, a couple of us who had done a long stint on Cinderella Man together last year where humorously recalling some of the details of one particular female extra.
This womens dress was this sets equivalent to Vivian Lee's green dress in "Gone With The Wind". Problem was our Miss Scarlet, acted more like the lead character in the Scarlet Letter.
Let's just say this women was quite aware of how this dress lifted and separated her ample cleavage.
Although, to give her the benefit of the doubt, she might have had a bad back, so that could be the reason she need to bend forward and stretch a lot. Especially when men passed.
It's funny how memory works though, after recalled the facts of this women, we both said simultaneously, "By the way, what was her name ?"
Where ever you are Miss Green Dress, god bless your spirit!

Things That Make You Shake Your Head II
To be fair, in the last post I noted some of the general publics misnomers and ill thought out phrasings spoken while passing productions. Here is a list of some of the questions uttered by those coming on to a set for the first time.
1. When do we eat?
(Hmm, you are standing in holding, there is a craft table set up for extras, wild guess, when you can? What they meant to say: How long after we have signed in will be be fed? Answer:Three(substantial) and six hours(Hot meal))
2. What time will be wrapped?
(Yeesh, it's 7:00am. When they get all the shots done?)
3. Who's a good agent?
(I hope the one your with!)
4. How much do we get paid?
(Christ we get paid! Yee Haw! This is something the agents cover early, hoping to scare off people who ask this kind of question.)
5. Why do we have to wear these uncomfortable clothing? Can't I wear jeans and stand in the back.
(Asked by a young girl to the wardrobe department ,who I'm assuming had not been kidnapped and dragged onto set and was fully aware that this was a period piece. (Nope, no heavenly bodies in this one, a black hole has sucked all the creativity out of this shlock. Example The short lived series "Wonderfalls)
2. Do you have any change?
(from a street beggar I was clearly wearing a police uniform too boot! Note, background performers make less than the guy who picks up road kill on the side of the highway. I was stumped by this guy.)
3. Are you allowed to shoot the guns?
(asked by a well meaning youngster, as she keenly spotted the replica glock placed in my holster. It would not be safe practice for a production company to allow extras to fire real weapons on a busy city street. Nuts.)
4. Can I be in the film?
(Asked by a man who decided to join the line of extras waiting to be cued by an AD(Assistant Director) to make their cross in front of the cameras. If you are that hard up to be seen on film, go the bank and stand in front of the security cam. Short answer no.)
5. Can I get your autograph?
(I'm not lying. On the set of John Q in 2000 a women was asking EXTRAS! for their autographs. Her reason, was just in case any of us made it big she could say I knew them when. And yes some people obliged, I didn't get a chance, really)

Post Cards From The Hammer
Here are nine photos depicting many of the spenders that can be found in and around the City of Hamilton. Liuna Station (former CN Rail)
This is the same station featured in many films including "X-Men" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight
Constructed between 1832-1835. Dundurn Castle has been restored to the year 1855 when MacNab was at the height of his career as a lawyer, landowner, railway magnate and Premier of the United Canadas (1845-56). Over forty rooms, above and below stairs, have been furnished to compare the life of a prominent Victorian family with that of their servants. Costumed staff guide visitors through the home, illustrating daily life from the 1850s.

What's In A Name?
What's In A Name? You ask. Well, in the world of celebrities it is everything. That said check out this top ten list of famous parents and their name choices for their children. Some are creative like Bruce Willis and Demi who named one of their children Scout Larue after a character in to Kill a Mockingbird. Jones Needs To Learn Cats Playbook ASAP
This weeks preformance by the Cats actually looked promising. Although they gave up five touchdowns to the 'Esks Ricky Ray, they made a game out of this weeks tilt with the Edmonton Eskimos, who came into the game with a 4-1 record.
On paper this game should have been a blow out for the win less Ti-Cats, but Hamilton managed to pull off their most successful offensive performances of the year and they did it in style.
Considering the Cats had only scored two passing touchdowns all year, it was exciting to watch Tiger-Cats’ D.J. Flick catch an 18-yard touchdown from Danny mismanage in the second quarter.It was Flick’s first TD of the season.
Tiger-Cats backup quarterback Marcus Brady, filling in for an injured McManus in the third quarter, connected with Chris frazzle on his first pass of the game for a 24-yard touchdown. McManus left the game with an apparent thumb injury, and did not return.
With the Tiger-Cats needing to rally in the fourth quarter, linebacker Rob Hitchcock caught a 19-yard pass by kicker Jamie Boreham on a fake punt resulting in a first down. Brady would complete a 20-yard touchdown to Brazzell later on the drive to pull Hamilton within 29-27.
But Ray led the Eskimos down field on a seven-play drive, ending on Tucker 15-yard touchdown reception.
Down 36-27, Boreham booted a 49-yard field goal, giving the Tiger-Cats a chance on their final possession. But the Eskimos defense stopped Brady at midfield, as Edmonton hung on to the victory.
This begs the question, with Danny Mac out, will Khari Jones, whom the Cat's picked up from Edmonton last week in an effort to give Hamilton a legitimate back up QB, be ready to step up and stop the bleeding?
Secondly, can Jones make it work with this same receiving core that just can't get on the same page with Danny Mac. Resulting in numerous drop balls. If he does, will this test Lancaster and Marshall's loyality to Danny and force Greg to yank McManus
permanantly?
I hope so, McManus is a graet field general, but it's about time we got some soldiers who can make an assault on the end zone.

Eternal

Another year has passed, sun, moon and earth.
Together in eternal harmony.
Mother earth, father sun and their children named star and moon.
Dancing to and fro, around the heavens in sweet embrace.
A bond that cannot be broke forever.
A song accompanies.
The celestial families dance, an aria of sort.
Melodies strings and harps.
Played by an orchestra of angels.
Accompanied by gods earthly creatures.
From subtle chirps of the smallest of birds.
To the thundering bass of the largest of beast of burden.
To each a spot on this heaven sent scale.
Creating the most perfect of composition.
As I sit, reflecting on the past.
On what was once.
And upon the hole left in my heart.
By the passing of my mother two years ago.
Her life cut short like a delicate and the rarest of lilies.
By some freak spring storm.
It's wrath, not even the heartiest of mother earths
Creations could withstand.
A hole where heavens bloom once reached for the sun remains.
Heavens mates, sun and earth.
One gone in body, but not in spirit,
Life's code suggests a cycle of death and rebirth.
To fill the void, in the garden. Each of the blooms surrounding the hole.
Had to grow stronger and bigger.
Stretching out forth towards their father sun.
To form a stronger chain.
One hoping to hold tight against further storms.
Children of strong earth and nurturing suns rays.
Bonding together to bask in the suns energy giving glow and setting.
Deep their roots in the enriching soil.
Their mother toiled so hard.
Year after year, turning clay into rich soil.
A strong base for her kin.
To sink deep, their roots, soaking up every drop of nourishment that she could offer.
Allowing her children to grow forth and stretch their roots outward.
And their pedals upward, seeking soil of their own.
To procreate new children.
As I continue to write this, still feeling the effects of winters chill.
I can not help grow warmer with each pen stroke, each brings forth.
A warm memory of my dearest mother in body, mind, and spirit.
She will always be with me.
So will her teachings of hard work, courtesy and kindness to those dear.

When the earth seems dark.
I only need to stretch out towards the sun and my fellow kin.
To feel the unembered glow of our departed mother.

Unabomber's Effects Ordered To Be Sold
Tell me I'm not the only one to find this story, a little disturbing. A federal appeals court last week ordered the government to sell thousands of pages of Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski's papers and other personal property to the highest bidder.
Common sense would dictate a response of public shun for these items. But no!.There are collectors in Florida, New York, California, Ohio that are clamering to get anything from him according to Tod Bohannon, owner of Murderauction.com, an auction Web site for murder memorabilia.
Bohannon's site, created earlier this year after eBay banned the sale of murder-related items amid protests from victims rights groups, features dozens of items from killers including John Wayne Gacy's framed Illinois license plate and letters written by Dennis Rader, the BTK killer in Wichita, Kan.
Experts, noting that some of Gacy's clown paintings he created in prison have sold for as much as $10,000, believe the Unabomber's journals could fetch more than $1,000 apiece.
Thank god, this crap will never show up on the "Antiques Roadshow". These collectors need to get a life. And I hope the U.S Government convinces the Federal Court to burn Kaczynski's stuff and send them down to hell, where they belong.

Bigfoot Hair a Hoax Says Scientist
A story out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada reports that a hank of hair purported to come off Bigfoot may well have come off someone's wall instead.
"You can't fool us with a hair sample," wildlife geneticist David Coltman said yesterday in announcing the hair was from a bison.
Coltman's University of Alberta team performed DNA tests this week on the hair reportedly plucked from a bush near Teslin, Yukon, this month.
"The DNA sequence from the Teslin hair sample produced a 100-per-cent match with known bison sequences," said Coltman at an occasionally hilarious news conference yesterday.
"This hair sample could not have come from the hairy, bipedal animal reportedly sighted in Teslin last week."
The hair DNA was so degraded it was probably years old and could have come from a stuffed animal, he said.
"It could be a consequence of the tanning process used to preserve hides and trophy mounts," said Coltman.
Bison are uncommon in the Teslin area of the Yukon.
The result came after days of speculation about the hair, found close to where several people swear they saw a large, hairy creature one evening.
Coltman went on to say that he already is working on his next case of the supernatural. Alberta's answer to Detective Mulder, says that within hours of debunking the myth of Bigfoot he got all a call from a women stating that she had heard a large dog like animal scratching and clawing across her roof.
She went on to add, that she felt it could have been a Werewolf.
I was hoping this hair was real and they could extract DNA and track down the elusive harry beast. Can't you see it know, a new season of the surreal life with Big Foot, Shack O' Neil, a return visit from Ron Jeremy and Paris Hilton. Big feet, big hands= well you know. And Paris is just a big hoe.

NEW! Feature Tarot Spred For The Week
I've decided to add a new feature to Kenaz's Blog. Each week I will publish a Tarot spread using the Woo-Woo deck.
First, a little about a Tarot spread. First, you are required to concentrate on a basic question dealing with life such as prosperity, love, health etc. To simplify the reading I have chosen a standard question of "Will this week be a successful one?". Each week this will be asked and I will report what the spread says.
I am using a ten card Celtic spread for maximum effect.
The the deck is first spread out face down in the middle of the table and mixed up thoroughly. The cards are then gathered and played out one card at a time, face up as follows.
The Celtic Cross spread is one of the most common tarot spreads. There is a cross in the center, with a row of 4 cards along the side. This spread will provide a fairly in-depth look at a situation including past, present and external influences. Beginners may want to start with a spread with fewer cards.
Positions: 1 - (beneath the 2 card) Basis of the situation. It represents the general tone of the reading and identifies the problem for the querent.
2 - Crosses the situation. This card shows the challenges or obstacles that are facing the querent.
3 - Subconscious. The true nature of how the querent feels about the matter.
4 - The past. Events of the recent past that will have influence or effect on the matter at hand.
5 - Conscious. The querents known feelings, which should be read in conjunction with card 3.
6 - The future. Something that will come to pass in the near future.
7 - The querent. The attitude and influence of the querent, and the role they play in the situation.
8 - The environment. The surroundings of the querent in this situation (possibly reflecting family, friends or work relationships).
9 - Hopes and fears. This card shows how the querent is feeling about the possible outcome of the situation.

The Woo -Woo Tarot
This deck is one of several published by Mystic Eye. It is a Major Arcana - only deck . The cards are larger than average at 3 1/2" X 5 1/4". They feel like they have been laminated, vice coated. The deck was designed as a birthday gift. The art appears to be computer generated and it looks like it is made primarily from clipart. I recognize many of the images from a Corel Mega Gallery set that I have. The Lovers is the only card that contains classic art. They are a mixture of traditional, modern and Native American imagery. The scenes are drawn in a rectangle with a rounded top and bottom. The images sometimes fall outside this area and the artist makes extensive use of corner decorations that tend to provide more defined corners. Overall, the art is good. The images are fairly simple and uncluttered. The cards are brightly colored. The deck reminds me of the Experimental Tarot Deck, only more original. The backs have a colorful design and are reversible. The cards have the traditional names. Strength is eight and Justice 11. I have no idea how the name for the deck was chosen.
There is no little booklet with this deck. Instead there is an 8 1/2" X 14" instruction sheet. The sheet begins with a story that describes how the deck came to be. It seems to be fictional. I won't spoil it by repeating it - suffice to say, the deck is channelled in the story. Upright and reversed meanings are provided for each card. They are brief and fairly traditional. Finally, there are instructions for the Celtic Cross Spread.
I recommend this deck for collectors. Those interested in computer graphics may also want to give this deck a look as it is an example of what can be done with clip art and a graphics program.

The Woo -Woo Tarot
This deck is one of several published by Mystic Eye. It is a Major Arcana - only deck . The cards are larger than average at 3 1/2" X 5 1/4". They feel like they have been laminated, vice coated. The deck was designed as a birthday gift. The art appears to be computer generated and it looks like it is made primarily from clipart. I recognize many of the images from a Corel Mega Gallery set that I have. The Lovers is the only card that contains classic art. They are a mixture of traditional, modern and Native American imagery. The scenes are drawn in a rectangle with a rounded top and bottom. The images sometimes fall outside this area and the artist makes extensive use of corner decorations that tend to provide more defined corners. Overall, the art is good. The images are fairly simple and uncluttered. The cards are brightly colored. The deck reminds me of the Experimental Tarot Deck, only more original. The backs have a colorful design and are reversible. The cards have the traditional names. Strength is eight and Justice 11. I have no idea how the name for the deck was chosen.
There is no little booklet with this deck. Instead there is an 8 1/2" X 14" instruction sheet. The sheet begins with a story that describes how the deck came to be. It seems to be fictional. I won't spoil it by repeating it - suffice to say, the deck is channelled in the story. Upright and reversed meanings are provided for each card. They are brief and fairly traditional. Finally, there are instructions for the Celtic Cross Spread.
I recommend this deck for collectors. Those interested in computer graphics may also want to give this deck a look as it is an example of what can be done with clip art and a graphics program.

Concern Over Possible 'Killer' Bake Goods!

U.S. and South Korea reacted with shock and suspicion on Tuesday to the first declaration from the reclusive North Korea that it was holding a nationwide Bake Sale.
The US Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld expressed concern over the large-scale fund raiser.
"We are curious, yet keep a skeptic eye, over this event" said Rumsfeld. "A fund raiser of this proportion raises many concerns for us and neighboring countries."
The sale by the communist North presents a major challenge to President Bush, setting his second term with a policy aimed at ending North Asia's nuclear crisis. Distribution of creamy pastries and buttery goods might soften political views of those once opposed.
Chang Myung-soon, an expert on North Korea's military at the Korea Institute for Military Studies said that the sale could generate revenue somewhere in the billions. In most part to purchase made to Sweden, Germany and the Massachusetts.
The crisis over the North's baking ambitions erupted in October 2002 when the United States said North Korea had acknowledged it had a secret recipe for Banana bread based on highly enriched flower as well as a plutonium scheme that it had put on hold.
The U.S. feels it can take no chances after failing to deter a Walk-a-thon organized by Russia in the early part of 1981.
In an unrelated food story, Jarrett, the former fat guy who says he lost a ton of weight eating Subway Sandwiches must think we are all retarded if he thinks that his diet plan is sound advice. He states that for one year he ate a six inch turkey at lunch and then a twelve inch vegetarian for dinner.
Doing the math that's about $8.00 a day x 365=$2920! Even if it was closer to $2000 for the year, for that kind of money he could have went to cooking school, learned how to make his own nutritiously balanced meals, then walk home every night. At the end of the year the fat ass would have lost all the weight and wouldn't be on tv everyday making me lose my lunch.
Sorry for the rant I haven't had breakfast yet and my tea tastes like it was brewed in an old rusty tank. Time to CLR the calcium deposits out of the kettle.

Producer of "Karla(Deadly)" Doesn't Want To Be Part Of The Circus
Deadly chronicles the crimes of Canada's notorious serial killers Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo. Over the past decade the former couple have gained international fame for their deeds and are often referred to as the Ken and Barbie Killers.
"As I watch that news coverage coming out of (Canada), it's all Karla, all the time," stated Deadly producer Michael Sellers.
Deadly was to be released to coincide with Karla Homolka getting let out of prison in July. This upcoming event is fueling a firestorm of controversy north of the border, where outrage over Karla Homolka increases daily.
"I don't want to be a part of that circus. I don't think we should be. I don't think it's the right thing."
Deadly stars Laura Prepon from That 70's Show and Misha Collins from films such as Girl Interrupted.
'DEADLY' SET TO PREMIERE AT THE MONTREAL FILM FESTIVAL
A movie based on Canada's most sickest serial killers will receive its world premiere next month at the Montreal World Film Festival.
Laura Prepon ("That '70s Show") stars in "Karla" as Karla Homolka, who teamed up in 1993 with her husband, Paul Bernardo, to torture and murder two schoolgirls in a case that gathered international attention because the attacks were recorded on video, which was shown in court. Homolka also helped Bernardo rape and murder her own sister. Misha Collins ("24") will play Bernardo. Joel Bender will direct..
Homolka was recently released from prison in Quebec after serving 12 years in jail as part of a controversial plea-bargain agreement. Bernardo continues to serve a life sentence for his crimes.
The deal became known as the deal with the devil.
The Montreal World Film Festival (Aug. 26-Sept. 5), defended its screening of the film in a statement, arguing that "notorious criminals" from Adolf Hitler to the Boston Strangler had been portrayed in film.
"Some of the actors have even won Oscars for their performances in these films, most notably Charlize Theron in the role of the criminal Aileen Wuornos in 'Monster,"' the festival said.
"Karla" producer Michael Sellers had originally looked to release the movie in Canada in May, but pushed the date to the fall after a public outcry in Ontario, the province where the crimes were committed.
Makers of a film about Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo plan to donate a portion of the proceeds to charity or to restrict screenings in Ontario.
When asked to comment about the makers of "Karla"s offer of a monetary solution to quell the backlash against the movie in Ontario. Toronto Lawyer Paul Burstein, who is one of the lawyers representing the French and Mahaffy families. stated that "he would rather see no one see this film, hence no profit, than see money given",
I don't believe in censorship in anyway, everyone has a right to see what ever movie they wish, but I plead with anyone who may be interested by this movies subject matter or it's big name stars, please reconsider.
Every time one of these monsters are given any press, my heart begins to bleed for the immediate victims of their hideous crimes and the hundreds of thousands more that shared their pain. Again for the sake of humanity, go see one of the many other movies at the film festival that are more deservant of your money and support.

I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.
I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.
I'm sorry we burnt down your white house during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's Very Nice.
I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer, but, we Feel your Pain.
I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you wanna have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.
And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way, which is really a thinly veiled criticism.
I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this. We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.

Hamilton Hydro 'Crushing the Peasants'
I just received my latest hydro and water bill and I am completely appalled at what Hamilton Hydro is being allowed to- specifically, the additional charges.
My actual consumption for this billing period totalled only $98.95 for electricity. An additional $87 worth of charges was tacked on.
Furthermore, no explanation was provided with the bill, apart from the vague list of charges on the front.
I want a detailed explanation for the following charges: non-competitive energy charges, debt retirement charge, transmission charge connection, transmission distribution charge and fixed distribution charge.
Those at Hamilton Hydro should realize that Hamiltonians are working class citizens- which does not mean low class- and cannot take these hits to their already tight budgets.
It's about time for the wheels of the mighty conglomerate to slow down before they crush the peasants who provide the grease.
This was an email that was written by me and subsequently published in the forums section of the Hamilton Spectator back on August 31, 2002. Three years later, my bills haven't gotten any better and the line from Hamilton Hydro basically boils down to, they are in debt because of mismanagement and government ignorance so badly, both levels agreed that the consumers were now responsible for paying off the debt, paying for Hamilton Hydro to do their job and keep the juice flowing at a reasonable rate.
How could a company the size of Hamilton Hydro continually get away with telling people to shut their air conditioners and essential appliances off at the height of summer because they say there is too heavy a strain on the electrical grid.
Bull! the day Ontario runs short on hydro is the day Niagara falls goes dry. Come on! in fact Ontario Hydro, the main supplier to Hamilton Hydro, admits they have in fact a years surplus for the entire province stored up and are even siphoning off some of that surplus and selling it to Quebec and cities along the eastern US seaboard like Boston.
Bottom line Ontario Hydro runs a trillion dollar crown corporation like a guy having a sale on cheap DVD's. He's got hundreds of them but only puts out a few at a time so he can control the price and keep their potential for profit high.
